The three-day workshops brought together leading experts from the Intermarium Institute, professors, former ambassadors of the Republic of Poland, local government officials from Małopolska, and journalists. The event was held under the Honorary Patronage of Łukasz Smółka, Marshal of the Małopolska Voivodeship.
Over these intensive days we jointly identified the strengths and weaknesses of the cooperation among Central and Eastern European states so far, defined the key goals and realistic needs of the region, and pinpointed the most important topics for the coming months and years. We also outlined concrete steps that can lead to stable – and ultimately very strong – cooperation, one that genuinely enhances the security of all countries stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea and beyond – from Scandinavia all the way to Türkiye.
In our view, a key element in building the strength of our region is a strategic partnership with the United States of America. Without lasting and active U.S. engagement, achieving the desired level of regional resilience against current threats will be difficult.
The idea of the Intermarium – originating in the strategic vision of Józef Piłsudski and now reviving in new geopolitical realities – is gaining particular relevance today. In the face of the ongoing war in Ukraine, Russia’s revisionist policy and the shifting balance of power in Europe, building a coherent and resilient bloc of states between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas is becoming not only a historical inspiration, but a real strategic necessity.
In the near future the Intermarium Institute will take on the role of organizer of the next workshops – both national and international, including active participation of the American Polish diaspora.
